Happy Thanksgiving week

Wow, it has been a long time since we posted anything here. October flew by with lots of work travel. I was in CA, VA, and DC. November has flown too (Yay, Obama!). John and I are great, enjoying work and having fun.

Poor Queets got bitten on the nose this morning by a mean dog. Really just a scratch, but it drew blood. Poor little guy. He's fine, but he likes to milk these kinds of things for all they're worth. He's cuddled up with John on the couch right now, watching football.

The big news of last night is that we're getting a drift boat! We've had our eye on these boats for a long time, and John had arranged a non-profit discount with the company, but then found an even better deal on Craigslist. He'll be able to use it for work, taking donors on little fishing trips. And of course we'll have lots of fun with it too. It's big enough for us, the dog, overnight gear (and a future kid or two!) So we have many river trips in our future. It's the best!

The plan is to drive to Bend, OR to pick up the boat on Tuesday, then do some floating/fishing on the Deschutes on Wed, then Wed afternoon we'll drive to Portland to meet the fam for Thanksgiving festivities. We'll all be in Portland through Sat night. I'm sure we'll do lots of walking and shopping (for Christmas, but also for houses -- my parents are looking at houses in Portland/Vancouver. And John and I are crossing our fingers that we can swing a move this spring/summer).

We are very grateful to Bobby and Sara for hosting Thanksgiving. Don't go overboard - just the basics!!

Speaking of food, I got the book "Skinny Bitch in the Kitch" at the used bookstore. Some people may find it offensive, but really it's just funny and irreverent. Their big thing is eating vegan (I'm not -- I could never give up cheese! -- but they have some good/healthy recipes). So, I'm going to make some muffins this afternoon, for tomorrow's breakfast. We'll see how they turn out.

Mario Andretti Souers

Our amazing, one-of-a-kind, wonderful dad just turned 65. For his birthday he spent a day at World Class Driving, testing all kinds of ridiculous sports cars. Here he is, fresh off the speedway.

You rock Te-So!

South Fork Snoqualmie River

I went for a nice little hike on Sunday with Darcy, her husband, and the dogs - Queets and Soma.

Check out the video Darcy made of the hike!

With a soundtrack, no less.

Unfortunately, it was too cold to swim (overcast, cool day + cold river), but I did give it a try.

Queets had a blast, as usual.

In other news, I got a haircut today! I'm really excited about it, I should have done this a year ago, but I was clinging to my long hair. I got it cut short (like the chin-length bob I had in/after college). Love it!

Home sweet home

I got home from DC late last night. It was a great trip all around -- good work-wise (lots of meetings, fun seeing everyone in the office, happy hours, and got lots of stuff done), I spent lots of quality time with Joy (who is looking fabulous at 5ish months pregnant!), and even got to kayak on the Potomac after work one day.

On Thurs morning I went for a run from Joy's house in Columbia Heights to my old house in Adams Morgan. It was fun to see the old neighborhood and reminisce about living there ten (ten!?) years ago.

Joy, Cheryl and I had a great dinner one night at a thai place on U street. Really fun to catch up. The conversations we were having about The Future (babies, etc, etc) reminded me of conversations we'd have the summer before college. Thinking about the great unknown and excited about everything to come.

It's great to be home - I missed John and Queets! We're having a very mellow, relaxing weekend. I love that the Olympics are on - can't wait for swimming and gymnastics!

Busy week!

We had a great time in Portland last weekend with Bob and Sara. It has been a busy week -- John and I celebrated our 4th (!) anniversary on the 30th, and I'm getting ready to be in DC all next week.

Here are pics from last weekend...John at his office, Bobby at "the Leaky Roof" restaurant, the windsurfing and kiteboarding scene in Hood River, and Bridal Veil Falls in the Columbia Gorge (the people at the falls aren't us, just random people)
